The semester is drawing to a close

Hey guys;

So, yesterday the last day of class came and went. This marks the end of the second semester of this academic year, except for the final exams next week.

Overall, this past semester has been somewhat mixed. There were some good things but there were also setbacks of which I’ve outlined in my earlier posts already.

The most significant thing this semester perhaps is the fact that I’ve started my application for the exchange program this September. The process, pretty much like the change of major process last year, involves a good deal of paperwork (once again, mankind seems to really like bureaucracy and paperwork when it comes to submitting formal documents). Though the application form for the university I intend to go is available online, filling in the details and submitting the form is in a form of a hard printed copy. Even the course/module matching form is done on paper! How many more trees in the Amazon are we going to cut down? But anyways, things went very smoothly, unlike the change of major last year. No grade issues (although that has more to do with the fact that my GPA is 3.19), no subject issues. Now I just have to wait for the official conformation from the destination university (I do hope that the exchange office at MUIC submitted my application form already, as of the time I’m writing this post). If my application was accepted, then the countdown towards September can officially begin.

As for other good stuff this semester…well there is at least the so called ‘post midterm exams events’, running from March 14th to March 25th (this chain of events is only possible because four of the events were artificially created since I decided to document those events by taking photos and videos). At least this event might be able to make up for the fact that there won’t be ‘post midterm exams events’ for November since there would have been no midterm exams at all, if I do indeed get to go to study abroad during the September semester.

In terms of setbacks…there were a number of them, both academic and non-academic such as horrible midterm score in one subject and failure to secure places on a club trip, and I’ve covered them already so I’m not going to repeat them here in this post.

Oh, and there’s the buddy program. Given how busy I am nowadays, I almost forgot about it. Ever since the semester began, I managed to meet up with my exchange friend four times, none of the meetings resulted in an event that I can properly document with photos and videos. Last semester I met up with my exchange friend three times, one of those meetings resulted in an event that I could actually document (I’m specifically referring to that 479 baht dinner). As whether I will participate in the buddy program once I came back from the exchange program, I’m not sure. It seems to be really difficult to hang out with exchange students more than three or four times during a semester, leave alone trying to organize trips with them.

As for upcoming events…a ‘post midterm exams events’ for June could still happen, if there was enough number of events that I could actually document (visiting my best friend at her house is very like, if not a certainty). STA senior prom…I highly doubt that I will attend as I don’t know any of the year 12 students that will be organizing it this year. As for the repeat of 14 March or 25 March or the musical…I highly doubt those as well. But ultimately I guess only time will tell. Oh, and I must not forget, a residential trip similar to the one held in January last year could happen, I just need to wait for the confirmation as whether it will happen and if so, when it will be held.

So…yeah, I guess that’s it for now…
