Wrapping up this semester

Hey guys;

Remember when I said in my last post that a post wrapping up this semester is coming soon? Well…here it is, the post I was talking about in my last post. But before we get into that, I would like to cover one more small event, a club activity that took place last week, which I totally forgot to cover in my last post.

This club activity, which is organized by the animal lovers club, was a cookie decorating activity, very similar to the one organized last month by the THM club. But unlike the activity last month, this activity spanned two days, from Wednesday March 11th to Thursday March 12th. The concept is pretty much the same as the activity last month – participants were given a piece of cookie to decorate with icings, sprinkles, etc (the difference is that this time, there were more variety of colors available for the icing and the cookies were circular, not heart-shaped). Also unlike the cookie decorating activity last month, this one does not require preregistration.

Just like with the cookie decorating activity last month, I received help, but this time, one of the organizers literally decorated the wwhole cookie for me; I just have to say what color I want. Thus my cookie was done relatively quickly, though waiting for it to dry took a good amount of time.

In addition, for this activity (at least on the first day) one of my best friends (the girl who bought me birthday presents earlier this month) joined me. Even though by then I was done with my cookie, but since I was waiting for it to dry, I decided to stay behind and watch what she is doing with her cookie. Before I leave though, I did asked someone to take a photo of me and my best friend holding our cookies. And…I’m really glad that we did managed to be together during this activity and took photos together, as this would eventually be the last time we would ever get to see each other for…I really, really do not know how long, all of course thanks to Covid-19.

For the second day of the activity I was on my own, but once again the organizers helped decorate the cookies for me (yes, for the second day of the activity I decided to decorate two cookies). My intention was to have one more piece of cookie for myself (the one I decorated on the first day tasted really, really good) and the other one I would give it to my introduction to logic classmate (the girl who has been with me ever since this very semester last year). As the cookies wouldn’t dry in time for my introduction to logic class, I decided to leave them with the organizers and pick them up after class. As I was determined to give my classmate the cookie, I managed to arrange for us to meet up briefly. Once again I’m really glad that I did gave the cookie to her on that day as, once again, this would turn out to be the last time we would ever meet until the final exam, if the in-person exam is still taking place at all.

Now, with that event out of the way, let’s get to actually wrapping up this semester…

This semester, I must say, has been pretty great. Almost every week, there was at least one event that I can write about on this blog. Thanks to Covid-19, this semester has become the shortest semester yet, with only ten weeks of classes, with the fate of my only final exam still to be determined.

Of course, the defining feature of this semester is the trips. There were four of them, and all of them were genuinely great. Perhaps the only positive thing right now is that at least the real poison of Covid-19 did not start biting until after all of those trips have concluded. Had the situation deteriorated during the first week of March, then the art club’s baking workshop trip would’ve been killed and my best friend would not have gotten to eat the cake. In fact, I would probably not be able to receive birthday presents from her at all, unless if we decided to arrange to meet up somehow. In addition, we probably wouldn’t be able to take a photo together or spend any more time together because the cookie decorating activity last week would’ve also been killed. If the situation deteriorated a week before the baking workshop trip, then the Phetchaburi trip, the food fair and the Central World shopping trip  would’ve been killed and that would’ve been the worst ever birthday present and…the worst ever birthday for me in general. And, had Thailand got to where we are now with Covid-19 since late January, then both the Klong Mahasawat and the Hua Hin trips would’ve been killed, and my dream of a second trip with exchange students would’ve been dashed, and…me and my best friend wouldn’t be able to exchange Valentines Day gifts as, the cookie decorating activity would’ve also been killed, leaving me with nothing to give to her for Valentines Day.

Anyways, back to the trips…since I’ve written about all four of them in detail in their own dedicated posts, I’m not going to go into detail again. This is the second semester in a row where all of the trips I went on were genuinely enjoyable and fun, and also the first semester in a very long time that club trips were actually good.

Other than trips, there were a whole host of events this semester, including two food fairs and a number of on-campus club activities. A dinner trip to Bangkok’s Chinatown during the first week of the semester was certainly great, as well as the student life market in late January and the shopping trip to Central World in late February.

As for the classes…business plan for entrepreneur was an interesting class, since it had no midterm or final exam. Around 85% of the overall grade is based on group work. Originally there was going to be a presentation for the business plan, but thanks to Covid-19 that has been scrapped. Selected topics in sport, AKA running, is not a particularly hard class, but very, very physically demanding. Originally this class was going to have a final exam, which was going to be a 10km run, but once again thanks to Covid-19 that has been scrapped. Introduction to logic was perhaps the most difficult class yet, and would be the class that pretty much decides whether I will graduate within this semester or not. Though the midterm result have been better than expected, the topics after the midterm was not that much easier at all and, as I mentioned, the fate of the final exam is still to be determined.

Overall, this semester has been great, almost as good as the last semester I would say. The only reason that the last semester was better is because…well, there were more events, and even though there were fewer trips, there were two residential trips, and these take place just one month right after one another, and both of them were actually very good.

So…yeah, I guess that’s it for now…
